Terms & Licence
Before you publish: every {{LIKE_THIS}}
marker below is a detail only you can supply — your legal entity, address,
jurisdiction and contact addresses. See
drivepurge.com/legal/README.md for the full checklist. These
documents are a starting draft prepared to reflect how DrivePurge actually
works; they are not legal advice, and a lawyer qualified in your
jurisdiction should review them before you sell to the public.
1. Who you are dealing with
DrivePurge is published by {{LEGAL_ENTITY_NAME}}, registered at {{REGISTERED_ADDRESS}} (“we”, “us”).
Your purchase itself is made from Dodo Payments, which acts as the merchant of record and is the seller on the transaction. Dodo will appear on your bank statement and issues your invoice. Dodo's own terms govern the payment; these terms govern your use of the software.
2. Your licence
When your payment completes we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, perpetual licence to use DrivePurge, subject to these terms. Specifically:
- You may install and activate it on up to three Macs that you own or primarily control. Household members may use those machines.
- You may use it for personal or business purposes at no extra cost.
- Future updates are included for as long as we publish them. We do not charge for new versions.
- You may move a licence between machines by releasing a device from within the app, which frees the slot.
If you bought for a team, the number of machines is whatever your invoice says.
3. What you may not do
- Share, resell, sublicense, rent or publish your licence key.
- Work around the activation system, or use a key you did not buy.
- Decompile or reverse-engineer the software, except to the extent that law expressly permits despite this restriction.
- Remove our notices or pass the software off as your own.
If a key is being used on far more machines than it is licensed for, we may revoke it. Where we do, we will contact you at your order email address first unless the abuse is flagrant.
4. Activation, and what happens offline
Activating a licence needs an internet connection once. After that the app stores a signed licence file locally and keeps working without a network. It re-checks with our server occasionally when a connection is available; if it cannot reach us, it keeps working for a further grace period and tells you plainly rather than locking you out without warning.
5. Free and paid features
Scanning your disk and viewing the map are free and always will be, with no account and no time limit. Removing files requires a licence.
6. Your files are your responsibility
Read this one. DrivePurge deletes files. It is designed to be conservative — it moves items to your Mac's Trash rather than erasing them, it asks you to confirm, and it does not touch system files — but you are the one choosing what goes.
Keep a current backup before you clean. Time Machine or any equivalent is fine. We cannot recover a file for you, because we never had it.
You are responsible for reviewing what you select, and for having a backup you can restore from. Emptying your Trash is a step you take yourself, in the Finder, and it is irreversible.
7. Warranty
We provide DrivePurge with reasonable care and skill, and we want it to work. Beyond that, and to the fullest extent the law allows, the software is provided “as is” without warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. We do not warrant that it will be free of every defect or that it will run without interruption.
If you are a consumer in the EU or the UK, this section does not reduce your statutory rights. You remain entitled to a remedy if the software is not as described or not of satisfactory quality, and nothing here takes that away.
8. Limits on our liability
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, for gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
Subject to that, and to the fullest extent permitted by law:
- our total liability arising out of or in connection with the software is limited to the amount you actually paid for it; and
- we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, loss of business, or loss of or damage to data, where such loss was not reasonably foreseeable to both of us when you bought the licence.
Again, if you are a consumer, this does not affect your statutory rights.
9. Updates and end of support
We may change, add or remove features as the product develops, and macOS itself will sometimes force our hand. If we ever stop supporting DrivePurge entirely, we will say so publicly at least 90 days beforehand, and your existing installation will keep working.
10. Ending the licence
You may stop using the software at any time. We may end your licence if you materially breach these terms and do not put it right within 14 days of us asking, or immediately if the purchase was fraudulent or has been charged back. A refunded licence ends when the refund is issued.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of {{GOVERNING_LAW_JURISDICTION}}, and the courts of {{COURTS}} have jurisdiction.
If you are a consumer resident in the EU or the UK, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country you live in, and you may bring proceedings in your local courts. Nothing above changes that.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms for future purchases. The terms that apply to your licence are the ones published on the day you bought it, unless a change is needed for legal reasons, in which case we will tell licence holders by email.
